The Raksha Bandhan Meaning


The Family matters a lot in Indian culture and festivals. The festivals are celebrated to bring family and its members closer. 

The reason to celebrate a festival is to share joys and enjoy with family. The festivals are special for everybody as they bring joys and happiness in our life.

 Such a festival which is celebrated in India is Raksha bandhan or we also called this festival Rakhi. Raksha bandhan is a festival of brother and sister true bond this festival is celebrated to enjoy and share joys and happiness with brother and sister.

 This festival  fall on Shravan  month Purnima which comes in August month .This is a day on which brother and sister both pray for each other  well-being and happiness.

 The Raksha bandhan means “Bond of protection”. On this holy and auspicious day brother and sister pray for each other. Brother  make a promise when her sister tie rakhi in his hand  that he will always protect her sister from every trouble she suffers and he also prays from god to always protect her and keep away her from troubles and when sister is tying Rakhi  in brother hand and pray for brother happiness .

The significance of Raksha Bandhan

Now a days Raksha bandhan is considered a day to celebrate brother sister pure relationship .

In past there have been happen several events which prove that Rakhi is a symbol of Raksha or protection. 

In past it could be tied by wife, daughter or mother. 

The Rishis tied rakhi to people [bhakt] who came to them for blessings now a day also in mandir [temples] Pandit or Pujjari tie a thread in Bhakt’s hand .

This Thread is a symbol of Raksha or Protection .The tying of Rakhi is not necessary to be tied by sister to brother. It could also tie by a wife to her husband or by a student to the guru.

 The bond not necessary to be between the people who have relation by blood. If a girl considered someone as her brother she can tie rakhi in that person hand.

Raksha bandhan was first popularized by Rabindranath Tagore to promote the feeling of unity and spread a message in society to protect each other in the time of trouble be united and support each other in the time of need and live a life with peace and happiness.

Now a days the society has a different perspective to the festival .The festival is now of brother and sister .The sister tie rakhi in brother’s hand  and give blessings to each other. The festival shows us values which are necessary for humans.The values are so strong that brother sister go far  away to meet each other and celebrate this festival
